A Great First Day...More to Come

I spent last nigh in the city with some players and basically mooched off of their emails...First the free agent signings that did occur from TSN

Columbus Blue Jackets - Signed unrestricted free agent Adam Foote, Re-signed unrestricted free agent Francois Beauchemin.
Florida Panthers - Signed unrestricted free agents Joe Nieuwendyk and Gary Roberts.
Los Angeles Kings - Signed unrestricted free agent Tom Kostopoulos.
Minnesota Wild - Signed unrestricted free agent Andrei Nazarov.
St. Louis Blues - Signed unrestricted free agent Aaron Downey.

Now for the ones that haven't yet...

Modano. The Bruins are suddenly emerging as the front runner, as rumors continue to swirl regarding Thornton getting moved. However the speculation that Iginla is only getting 6M this year sliding up to 6-5 in his third year has made some consider that Thornton might meet the B's halfway and get around 6 himself. It is possible, according to one source, that Iginla may be contingent on Niedermayer signing with Calgary. Modano is also talking to Atlant and LA.

On Niedermayer.. A source sent this in "Scott Niedermayer was on Rogers Sportsnet TV tonight in Canada.  He says he wants to know his future soon. He didn't rule out returning to New Jersey, nor did he rule out playing "on the West Coast."  Sportsnet reported brother Rob has just signed a new contract with the Mighty Ducks. But the most interesting thing Scott said was, "It would be nice to raise my children here in the area my wife and I grew up in." That area of course is Cranbrook, British Columbia.  The closest NHL city is Calgary. And the Calgary papers are urging Jarome Iginla to help lure Niederman to the Alberta Foothills. (Remember, Calgary is only 4 hours drive from Cranbrook, Vancouver is about 12 hours away by car.)"

Aucoin has not ruled out returning to the Isles, but Chicago and Montreal are driving up the price.

Lindros, despite rumors that he needs to get back in shape, is being rumored to Florida, Toronto, and going back to the Rangers...However another source this morning said, "After conversations from last night I would bet my hat he goes to Nashville. A perfect fit for what they are doing."

Another source, "The Lightning will be unable to sign both St. Louis and Lecavallier. Martin has been telling people of his desire to play on the Rangers if he must leave, but I bet it will be Vinny who is tendered an offer by Montreal, and some sort of sign and trade is worked out..I put it at 50% that Vinny is a Hab soon."

The Flyers, who were in constant pursuit of Foote will likely sign Hatcher today.

The Edmonton Oilers, very secretive in general, have been in discussions with Paul Kariya, and Brian Rafalski.

Brian Boucher is also getting large amounts of interest..look for Carolina and Vancouver as a possibilty as early as today or tomorrow...

The Rangers are trying very hard to lure the Naslund and Forsberg Show to Broadway. I still believe that Forsberg, who didn't want to go to Toronto to be in the spotlight, is less likely to wan to go to NY. I am starting to hear more and more that Naslund will either be staying put or going to join Forsberg in Colorado. Colorado is apparently ready to move Tanguay to keep him. However Hedjuk may be able to stay now that Foote has moved.

More on Montreal...Andre Roy and Teemu Selanne and Dandeneault are names that several sources are reporting headed to the city of the underground city. The same source that sees Vinny going there believes that that move could really start a chain reaction.

We will be holding chats through out the day...we spent most of yesterday maxed out at 200 people...I will be back in the main room at 2pm ET today.

INSIDERS. There will be an insider chat this morning at 11 am details to follow.
