What to expect on Monday...

As you have probably seen the two sides will once again continue the dance this Monday...

The first question..."Why Not Today?" The answer may be Bob Goodenow and his love of last minute negotiations...(I can hear the hockey world go, "ugh!")....April 8th is the new deadline when supposably the evil "linkage" will return for good...Although, talk to any lawyer and they will tell you once something is on the table it can never been taken off for good...I do believe the NHL when they say that the longer this goes the less the players will get...that is basic common sense, and even if revenues do return to 2 billion it would be hard to imagine that it would return t0 2 billion in the period of the term of the new CBA...given the CBA will probably be around 4-7 years...That makes this CBA interesting, in that it will be the CBA for an economic down time. The next CBA could be stronger for the players if they negotiate without a work stoppage.

The second question..."Will the NHLPA proposal lead to progress" Ah the "p" word. Knowing some aspects of the proposal off the record I do think that if the NHL wants it to it will...I do think the owners are split on this...Half of them thinking they should go for the homerun with replacement players, and half thinking that replacement players will hurt the business in ways that aren't being considered. I expect that after Monday we will hear the PA saying that progress is being made, but I doubt the NHl will admit to that until they feel a deal is imminent ...The NHL will hold its cards close to the vest figuring that admitting progress could hurt impasse in court.

Thanks to all who have already joined our message board...It is turning into a cool place already...
